Da Krong River
Literally, the Other Side of Vietnam. The HCM Highway follows the Da Krong River along the border with Laos between Khe Sanh and the battle-scarred A Shau Valley. In the distance, the rugged Annamite Cordillera, or the Truong Son Range, marks the border. Villages here mostly are home to hill tribes once known as Montagnards. They were refugees during the war but have now returned to the area. Their agriculture is slash and burn. Many Vietnamese have also moved into these remote border areas which are a total contrast to the over-populated coastal regions that most tourists see.
